The Only Moral Commandment

There is only one ultimate moral commandment. It is the easiest and the hardest thing in the world. It has many poisonous counterfeits, but those who have tasted it, know it, and could never truly fall for any impostor or settle for any substitute. It requires the most intense devotion, the strongest determination, the boldest desire, the fiercest courage, the sharpest intellect. Its achievement could cost one the loss of everything, but the one who has everything without it has nothing at all and the one who loses everything to gain it has gained everything and more. Its dangers are great, but its glories are greater. To disobey it is the essence of evil and all the evil in the world is hell-bent against it. It is the highest, the most noble, the holiest calling upon the life of Man, and it can be summarized in two simple words: be happy – or one word: live!

  1. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And He said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." -Matthew 22:36-40 NASB

  2. Richard

The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

IF you don’t love yourself you can never love you neighbor. AND, since were are made in God’s image we must love ourselves and our neighbors as we love him. To do otherwise is to deny oneself AND God.

The more we strive to do well in our own lives the better off those around is will be. Its a circle. Break any part of it and it all falls apart.
